THE FOLLOWING ARE THE MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT THE AUDITION?

First you have to make a reservation.  You can either call by phone 412-366-6610

or You make a reservation via e-mail,  The address is nskdirector@yahoo.com

It is good to make your appointment early because you will be able to select a time that works with your schedule.

 

Second when you arrive you will fill out an application.

 

Third  you will be assigned to a big sister or big brother, current, NORTH STAR KID.

This KID will stay with you for the entire process.  Your parent will have to wait in the assigned area and will not be permitted to watch....sorry.

 

Forth you will meet with the choreographer. She and your NSK FRIEND will work on a short, choreographed number.  We have a great one picked out for this year!  It is not hard, we just want to see how you move to music.

 

Fifth you will go into the auditioning room where there will be 4 or 5 very nice people who will listen to you sing and see how you move to the dance you have just learned. 

You will have to sing 3 songs.

 

1.  THE NATIONAL ANTHEM in the key of G  (Someone will play the piano)

2.  TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME in the key of B flat ( Someone will play the piano)   

3.  ANY SONG YOU WOULD LIKE TO SING    DO NOT BRING MUSIC!         

    

We want you to sing your song without music.

 

Sixth you will be walked back to the area where your parent is waiting.  Here you will be  handed a piece of paper.  You will be asked to WAIT and open it in your car.  The paper will tell you if we want to see you again.  This is called a call back.  It will tell you everything you need to know.  If you are not called back do not get upset!  Come back next year.

Many NORTH STAR KIDS had to audition 2 times or more!  Next year you will know what is expected and be more at ease.

                                                

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AT THE AUDITION?

We are looking for good singers and good dancers.    We want to see how you can shine, we want to see the energy that makes you....you!  We want to see kids who look like they enjoy what they are doing.

 

HOW LONG DOES ALL OF THIS TAKE?

Allow for at least one hour.  Sometimes we can get backed up.  Please be patient. 

We want to allow every child as much time as they need.

 

HOW MANY KIDS ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE?

This a hard question to answer right now.  We will probably select 10 kids. 

We have to be sure we have a balance of ages, boys, girls and talents.

 

WHAT IF MY SISTER MAKES IT AND I DON'T?

It is always difficult when one sibling makes it and not the other.  It is something you have to work out as a family because that can very well happen.

 

WHAT IF I CANNOT MAKE THE AUDITION DAY?

Sometimes we can work it out and sometimes we cannot.  It all depends on a number of things.  Call even if you can't make the date.  We see what we can do!

 

WHAT IS THE NORTH STAR KID SEASON? 

 Camp in August is the start of the season.  There are a few shows scattered in August, including the National Anet hm for the Pirates.

 

Regular rehearsals begin in September 6 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at McKnight Elementary School on Cumberland Road.  Rehearsals continue every Thursday.

Our first season ends around the middle of December.  We start up again in mid

January and continue until June 1st.  The kids are off for the summer.

 

WHAT IS THE POLICY  FOR  MISSING A SHOW OR REHEARSAL?

The excused absences are sickness, religious holidays celebrated by the immediate family, school related music events ex:  band concerts, chorus concerts, talent shows etc.  You are given 2 personal days each season.

 

IS THERE A TUITION?

Yes there is a tuition.  Tuition right now,  is $400.00 for August to December and $400.00 for January to June.  There are payment plans and fund raisers where as children keep ALL the money they make and put it towards tuition.  Also very important to note that no child will ever be denied admission to NORTH STAR KIDS for inability to pay. 

 

HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY IN THE NORTH STAR KIDS?

Girls can stay in the NSK until the end of 8th grade.

Boys can stay in the NSK until the end of 9th grade.

 

WHAT KIND OF SHOWS DO YOU DO?

Mostly a Broadway-style song and dance revue, although we are very dedicated to the events of 9/11 and perform annually in Shanksville.

Our standard show is called THE SPIRIT OF BROADWAY.

We also have a holiday show called A SEASON TO REMEMBER.

And we have a patriotic show called I AM BUT A SMALL VOICE.
